Superfood Called Coffee

Is is possible that our common household drink could be considered a superfood?. If independent studies are correct then yes, coffee offers many health benefits to us all, some of which are lower heart disease, lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and it provides needed daily antioxidants.

Coffee has more antioxidant activity than green tea and cocoa, which are two antioxidant superstars. Over 1,000 antioxidants are found in coffee. One of which, Chlorogenic acid, an important antioxidant found almost exclusively in coffee, is also thought to help prevent cardiovascular disease.

There is some evidence that coffee may support heart health by protecting against arterial damage caused by inflammation. This independent study was produced by looking at 37,000 people over a 13 year period. They found that moderate coffee drinkers (2 – 4 cups per day) had the most benefit to protecting your heart than light, heavy or non drinkers.

Back to our antioxidants, another component of coffee known as caffeic acid has been found to be particularly significant in reducing the toxic accumulation of abnormal protein deposits (amyloid fibrils) found in people with type 2 diabetes. This acid, helps the body use insulin more efficiently, which regulates the body’s blood sugar. When the body’s blood sugar is at bay, then the body can keep inflammation down, as well as, preventing tissue damage.

When it comes being healthy remember, a good diet, plenty of exercise, and two cups of coffee by Java Joes’ and Fundraising Junction go a long way.
